  • #Kony2012: The fastest “viral” video ever?

    March 12, 2012… Visible Measures releases a press update that the Kony2012 video of the non-profit organization ‘Invisible Children’ passed the 100 million views. You might think: “quite a lot, but what’s the big deal? Other videos did this as well, right?” … True, other videos reached this staggering amount of views as well… Susan Boyle did it with her performance on Britain’s got talent, Lady Gaga’s music clip Bad Romance did it as well,… Even two other ad campaigns reached the 100 million line: Blendtec’s “Will it blend” and Evian’s “Live young”. So what’s the difference? None of them did this in only 6 days!

  • Dutch Book Launch The Conversation Company: Thank you!

    Yesterday was the big launch of my second book: The Conversation Company in The Netherlands. Trouw Amsterdam was packed with more than 350 marketing and communication professionals, I called them the “crème de la crème” of the Dutch internet industry. There is only one more thing to say about the event: THANK YOU. Thank you for being there with so many people. Thank you Ben van der Burg for a truly inspiring story about ice skating and his #benstedentocht, social media and never giving up.   • Co-creation is just the starting point of structural collaboration

    The past few years, we’ve seen the birth of many great and successful co-creation cases in the marketing landscape. Doritos asked consumers to develop a TV advert for the Super Bowl. Lay’s crisps asked consumers for new flavours and snack manufacturer Mora developed a new croquette in collaboration with consumers. Co-creation is currently on every marketer’s checklist. Experimenting with this “new” work method is smart. However, it should go beyond a marketing campaign, which it usually was in the most of the examples mentioned.
